Duality is a piece that embodies the tension of opposites: the meeting of two bodies, feminine and masculine, yet also the fractured existence of the colonised body. It is an exploration of presence and absence, strength and vulnerability, desire and denial.
Through the Brazilian dancers’ bodies, this duality unfolds against the haunting voice of Amália Rodrigues. Her fado songs, saturated with longing, passion, and despair, become the pulse of the work. Every note carries the weight of betrayal, the shadow of death, and the fire of unrelenting love.
The dancers do not merely interpret these songs; they let them carve through their flesh, etching memory into movement. Their bodies hold both the coloniser’s mark and the resistance of the colonised, a perpetual conflict that transforms into beauty, pain, and resilience.
Duality is not just a dialogue between two bodies. It is the cry of a body that has been divided, wounded, yet still dances fierce, fragile, and infinite.
